Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of FTX, had four meetings with White House officials prior to the company’s collapse.
This development has been interpreted as SBF’s effort to connect in Washington before the crypto company collapsed.
Sam Bankman-Fried Meets with the White House
White House sources said the SBF met with Steve Ricchetti, a senior adviser to President Joe Biden, on September 8.
It was stated that the two met on 22 April, 12 May and 13 May in the same year. It was stated that another senior aide to Biden, Bruce Reed, was also present at the meeting on May 13.
A spokesperson for the SBF has yet to respond to a request for comment on the matter.
FTX’s ties to Washington have come under scrutiny since the stock market crash. Sam Bankman-Fried was the party’s second-largest individual donor, giving millions of dollars to Democrats.
A source who was aware of the meetings pointed out that politics was not discussed in the meetings with the White House.
The SBF is also known to make frequent trips to Washington while living in the Bahamas.
