The Bitcoin core developer said that all Bitcoin (BTC) assets have been lost due to the PGP key being compromised.
The total value of assets lost to crypto hacks this year has reached a record $3 billion. Just at the beginning of the new year, an unfortunate attack took place. Early Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr lost his BTC holdings.
Nearly $4 Million Bitcoin Stolen
Bitcoin core developer Luke Dashjr announced on his Twitter post on January 1 that he lost all BTC assets due to the PGP key being compromised.
Dashjr said he had no idea how malicious actors accessed PGP keys. PGP keys use an encryption program that provides cryptographic privacy and authentication for data communication.
Dashjr did not disclose the amount of BTC he lost to the alleged hackers. He said that some of his BTCs are used in conjunction with the “1YAR6opJCfDjBNdn5bV8b5Mcu84tv92fa” wallet. The Bitcoin core developer showed that the wallet has transacted four times, holding 216.93 BTC worth about $3.6 million.
Dashjr added that efforts to reach law enforcement have so far been inconclusive.
